All guns should be off the streets. Period.

Semi-automatics should be illegal. But the police are also trigger happy. Our whole culture must be overhauled.

The NRA is a right wing organization and many of it's members are supporters of many right wing causes. These people often quote the bible or laws and they take them literally. They cite the 2nd amendment as giving gun ownership as a right to all Americans. Here is what the 2nd Amendment says verbatim. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The opening line is a well regulated militia and since it opens the statement it was MEANT to be very important by the framers of the Constitution. Also, there was no well supplied military at the time of the writing so those citizen kept arms were considered necessary for national defense. The surge in gun and ammo sales is due to fear mongering and paranoia and is aimed at personal defense only. It has NOTHING to due with what is written in the 2nd amendment.

You are absolutely right! Assault rifles should be absolutely banned. You do not need a semi-automatic shotgun or M-16 .223 cal to go hunting or for protection. A .40 cal. handgun should be plenty to protect you and your family in the home. Being very close to Jersey's Finest, some are qualified with the assault rifles to respond to certain situations. Look at the Bank Robbery that happenned in California years ago!! The thugs had more firepower than the Police!! Its the liberals that have these stupid laws. When will they ever wake up?

Just imagine if the student protestors last month in Iran had weapons ... or if the student protestors in China had had them.

I have been on one of our local streets this week and saw a fight break out between three young women - I am sure it was something they are laughing at now (or at least I hope so). If they had accessible guns, they might have been tempted to use them in the heat of a petty argument. I may have grown up in a different era, but my Christian upbringing emphasized minimized weaponry in all cases. Over the last 10 years or so the neo conservatives have united with the religious people to strengthen gun rights. We need to enforce gun laws and this includes getting semi-automatics off the streets. Supreme court nominee, Sonya Sotomayor was grilled about her stance on the second amendment as an "acid test" of traditional judgement. I wish they had spent time on other equally important things

The problem with taking the "man-killing" guns away is that taking them away from the law abiding citizen is easy but taking them away from the offender impossible. Their weapons are attained illegaly. We, the American people, of a Nation fought with the blood of ancestors, will ALWAYS be at a disadvantage if unarmed.

I happen to be a NRA life member, and also a hunter, protector and law abiding tax payer. I have both semi auto and pump shotguns for hunting and skeet shooting.The shotgun used in this horrible crime is not perceived as a assault rifle. This was a full size pump shotgun, not a sawed off or street sweeper as many would believe it to be. The criminals had no right to be in possession of this firearm but being a criminal he found a way to aquire it. Instead of trying to rid the USA of its second amendment rights, why not concentrate on making it harder for the criminals to be able to obtain firearms. Also I was wondering how five trained police officers (god be with them and their families)with semi automatic pistols and shotguns,could not bring down this fugitive before all being shot? I keep hearing about the NRA being part of the blame when in fact , if they were all trained by a NRA certified instructor, they might not have all taken a hit. I was trained by a NRA instructor here in New Jersey at a place in Lakewood called the Brick Armory. I am confident that I would have a excellent chance of walking away from a gun battle should it ever happen to arise.

I am a member of the NRA and do not own or use a firearm...i support the NRA for the simple fact that only criminals use guns for crimes...It is important support our 2nd amendment...less any of our God given rights be lessened by politicians who do not face poverty afforded to them by confiscating tax dollars.

Watched Mr. Frenchs' show and couldn't help notice the typical innaccuracies and misinformation reguarding firearms. He was showing a pic of a mossberg 500 shotgun and calling it "semi-automatic"- it is not semi automatic, it is a pump shotgun that requires a pump before each shot.Also the true definition of an "assault weapon" is a military-style weapon capable of fully automatic fire- those have been banned since the 1930's- only the police and military can have automatic weapons. So the next time someone asks about your guns " do you really need that"? just ask them to accuartly describe what "that" is
