Gun Ban Reversal: Will the Public Be More of Less Safe?

June 28th, 2010   (327 views )

According to a 5-4 Supreme Court majority, Americans have the right to own a gun for self-defense anywhere they live. It's a further step aong a recent course taken by the
court to embrace gun rights. The City of Chicago banned hand guns 30 years ago. The justices ruled that the Constitution's "right to keep and bear arms" applies nationwide as a restraint on the ability of the federal, state and local governments to substantially limit its reach. New York City does not have a gun ban. The city does restrict who can have them.

We ask: Gun Ban Reversal: Will the Public Be More of Less Safe?

As long as dumb people aren't the ones owning guns, then sure, let people arm themselves. In fact, let everyone have guns and the dumb ones will thin the herd by accidentally and/or purposefully shooting themselves and each other.

Another great ULTRA Liberal question by RNN
Nothing will change. The responsible gun owners will not cause ONE problem
The criminals will be the same ones that now cause all the gun violence and will continue with agenda
Why don't they go after the criminals with guns--Never mind they can't fix the immigration problem,so how could they ever fix this???

People has the right to bear arms and the suremee court has affirmed that fact. But there are criminal elements in metropolitan areas that obtained guns ilegally and will commit crimes. In these areas like Chicago there should be a probitiion of handguns unless registered. As expected the supreme court always rules in the favor of special interests and against the individual. Maybe with the appointment of Ms kegan it will bring some balance to this supreme court

From Lancaster PA (WTVE51):

We banned marijuana, cocaine, and other dangerous drugs and yet I can still go to the local school, or city corner, and get any of those.

Any attempt to ban or limit guns would be equally UNsuccessful. Put another way: If guns are outlawed, then only outlaws will have guns - the rest of us will be like defenseless sheep.

P.S. To clarify:

The Gun Prohbition would be no more effective than the Drug Prohibition and Alcohol Prohibition were. The latter two failed and so would the former.

The decision is a plus for the law abiding citizen.
Now the people can defend themselves from those who have the guns and do not care about the law.

Yes it is Irene.I'm a senior citizen who can no longer rock and roll like I did 45 years ago with a punk.I own guns and if some 'high on crack looser' breaks in here the only freaking thing he is going to hear is'"""CLICK"""" My wife is armed also. She use to hunt with me for years. We are safe, trained, law abiding citizens WHO have ZERO tolerance for a looser who's intent is hurting, killing or robbing us-IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN

I agree with the decision. Of course there should be laws about carrying them in public especially in cities. You should have the right though to protect your home and your family. I'm not against laws that would force classes on gun safety and screenings.
The arguments against this ruling are not valid. Crimes of passion, will happen regardless unless you ban sharp edged objects such as knives and blunt objects such as bats. Children getting hold of guns, well the guns should be locked up, and their children educated about guns and if the parents feel thats not going to work then they have the right to not keep one in the household. Finally as has been said drugs are illegal and they're still easily accessable So criminals regardless will be able to obtain them. Legal or illegal.
Our government's job is not to be our parents, but to enforce the safety in public places. It is our responsibility to be held accountable for our actions or the actions of others, in our household.

A word to the wise.

Just because someone breaks into your home it does not give you the right to shoot and kill them.

I believe you should have that right.

You have to say you feared for your life.

Many States differ.

Considerably, the article is in reality the sweetest on this notable topic. Don't cut off the conversation half-way through, or finish without touching on a particular important theme.

I thought it was going to be some boring old post, but it really compensated for my time. I will post a link to this page on my blog. I am sure my visitors will find that very useful. Second is the question, "If I file for bankruptcy, will I lose my house?" Unfortunately, the answer to that one is "maybe" trending toward "yes." The instances where you won't lose your house are if you've been able to keep up mortgage payments and have been able to put together a comprehensive payment schedule going forward.
