"Man Up": Do Democrats Need to Get More Aggressive?

October 15th, 2010   (104 views )

LAS VEGAS (AP) - In a crackling campaign debate, Republican
challenger Sharron Angle attacked Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
as a career politician Thursday night who lives in a fashionable
Washington condominium and has voted to raise taxes 300 times. The
four-term veteran called his tea party-backed rival extreme and an
ally of special interests.
Angle played the aggressor from the opening moments of the
hour-long debate, at one point taunting the Democratic leader to
"man up, Harry Reid" as she urged him to concede that Social
Security faces financial difficulty.
Is she right? Do democrats need to "man up" and get more agressive?

"man up, Harry Reid"-Sharon Angle

Should she "man up" and admit to the general audience (instead of partisan fellow travelers only) the things she has said? Or "woman up"? What would that mean? Her phrase is a fail-safe slur that can't be turned back around on her. It's in keeping with the sort of campaign she's been running,-give out to her base the crazy stuff they want to hear, then run away from reporters who press her on these statements, then tell a different story if comments to the general public are unavoidable, and, when all else fails, the deepest of ad hominem cuts. If Harry Reid can be tied with her in polling, this weakest of incumbents, the larger public is apparently not so easily driven to craziness as a Paladino or an O'Donnel or a Buck or a Miller or an Angle needs the public to be for them to win.

Harry Reid, Senate Majority Leader, speaking on the floor of the Senate, calling American tourists "stinkers":

"Mr. President, someone wanting to visit the Capitol today, there is no place for them to gather. They gather -it used to be out on the East Front – now they gather on the West Front. And the people who work here joke about you can always tell when it’s summertime because YOU CAN SMELL THE VISITORS. And what we mean by that Mr. President – they stand out there in the high humidity, heat, sweating, and it’s really – there’s no place for them to go. The bathrooms in this facility are almost nonexistent. There is one on this side, one on the other side, both very small.”

Oh, I can see Reid now, fluttering his lace hankie about his face, covering his nose when about to faint from the odorous citizenry.

Yeah, Reid. MAN UP!

Democrats or Obama getting aggressive only further exposes their arrogance. Instead of admitting mistakes and committing to correcting them, Obama sticks to his same failed policies and blames the American people for not thinking clearly and being scared. This does not serve for explanation but provides motivation to vote decisively against them.

“Posted on October 17, 2010 at 11:04pm In his remarks at a Democratic fundraiser in Massachusetts Saturday evening, President Barack Obama said that Americans’ fear and frustration” are to blame for an intensely competitive midterm election season favoring Republican candidates. “Part of the reason that our politics seems so tough right now and facts and science and argument does not seem to be winning the day all the time is because we‘re hardwired not to always think clearly when we’re scared,” Obama said Saturday evening in remarks at a small Democratic fundraiser Saturday evening. “And the country’s scared.”

NO WERE NOT SCARED WE ARE MOTIVATED!

RNN Staff: Are you sure that you want aggressive. How about this?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/20/us/politics/20spend.html

MikeG, fred, Maggie Mama, Big Bob and all those who think that Republicans have the answer to lowering the deficit caused by Federal Spending:

JOHN BOEHNER LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH HAS NO PLAN TO LOWER THE DEFICIT HIS CUTS WILL LEAVE AMERICA DECIMATED AND IN RUIN- HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER HEARD OR READ ABOUT THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE? READ THIS!!!

HEADING- As G.O.P. Seeks Spending Cuts, Details Are Scarce-
(GEE, HAS ANY OF YOU EVER TAKEN THE TIME TO QUESTION THESE LOCKSTEPPING SNAKEOIL SALESMEN AND YOUR FRONTMAN JOHN BOEHNER WHO TRIPLED THE NATIONAL DEFICIT UNDER YOUR WATCH OR IS A FOX NEWS "SOUNDBYTE" AND LOUD MOUTH BITCHING AND MOANING ALL YOU HAVE TO STAND ON?)

THE ARTICLE:
"Calculations by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and other independent fiscal experts show that the $1.1 trillion cost over the next 10 years of the Medicare prescription drug program [AKA/THE BUSH PLAN], which the Republican-controlled Congress adopted in 2003, by itself "would add more to the deficit than the combined costs of the bailout, the stimulus and the health care law." HMMMMMM! IMAGINE- THAT'S FACT, NOT HERESAY.

... The parties share blame for the current fiscal situation, but federal budget statistics show that Republican policies over the last decade, and the cost of the two wars, added far more to the deficit than initiatives approved by the Democratic Congress since 2006, giving voters reason to be skeptical of campaign promises.

Calculations by the *nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office and other independent fiscal experts show that the $1.1 trillion cost over the next 10 years of the Medicare prescription drug program, which the Republican-controlled Congress adopted in 2003, by itself would add more to the deficit than the combined costs of the bailout, the stimulus and the health care law.

The House Republican leader, John A. Boehner of Ohio, has called for immediate cuts in “non-security discretionary” spending to prerecession 2008 levels. Independent analysts say that would require eliminating about $105 billion — or more than 20 percent of spending by departments like Education, Transportation, Interior, Commerce and Energy — a level of reductions that history suggests would be extremely hard to execute. (Since 1982, nonmilitary discretionary spending has never dropped by more than 5.5 percentage points in any given year.) ARE THESE THE KIND OF CUTS THAT ADD TO NATIONAL SECURITY, JOBS, OR DOES IT HAVE THE OPPOSITE AFFECT THAT ADDS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS TO YOUR TAX BURDENS.
BOEHNER IS AN IDIOT- ADMIT IT.

*At the same time, most Republicans are calling for the permanent extension of all Bush-era tax cuts, which would add $700 billion more to the deficit over the next 10 years than President Obama and Democratic leaders have proposed by continuing only some of the lower rates. YEAH, THATS WHAT WE NEED MORE WELFARE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE CUT JOBS AND STOLEN YOUR RETIREMENT CAPABILITY AND HAVEN'T EVEN PAID ONE RED CENT FOR "THEIR" WARS.

**Republicans say extending the cuts will spur economic activity, but that is hardly guaranteed. ONLY 220,000 JOBS CREATED PER YEAR DURING THE ENTIRE 8YRS OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION. AFTER BEING BAILED OUT WITH "YOUR" MONEY. ASK YOURSELF, WHY ARE YOU STILL WAITING??? TO DATE YOU HAVE ABSORBED MORE THAN 1.2TRILLION IN ADDDITIONAL DEFICIT COSTS AND THATS ONLY AN ACCURATE FIGURE IF THAT PORTION OF THE DEFICIT WERE PAID OFF TODAY.

And the cost of either plan is astronomical: Mr. Obama’s plan will add more than $3 trillion to the deficit; the Republicans’ plan will add more than $4 trillion."
WHAT??? OMIGOSH!!! Ooooops!

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT REPUBLICANS WILL INCREASE THE DEFICIT BY MORE THAN ANOTHER TRILLION DOLLARS.
Isn't it about time, all of you put your money where your mouths have been?
OBAMA'S PLAN IS A TRILLION DOLLARS CHEAPER AND STILL PROVIDES HEALTHCARE FOR ANOTHER 40MILLION AMERICANS. YOU ARE STILL "PATRIOTIC" AMERICANS WITH INTEREST IN SAVING THIS COUNTRY- ARENT YOU?

John, the memory ran out on the other topic but I have a response to your tea party post I want to share:

"ITS LIKE WE HAVE BOTH SAID MANY TIMES BEFORE WHEN BECK WAS THE TOPIC DON'T BLAME THE MESSENGER WHEN THEY BRING FORTH AN UNMISTAKABLE TRUTH. ARE YOU RETRACTING THAT STANCE NOW FOR PARTY LOYALTY OR CONVICTION BECAUSE, THAT STATEMENT DOES NOT REFLECT ANY RATIONAL DEFENSE?" - John

No John, there are those that would certainly ride the movement for their own self interests and if they don't represent the core values of that movement, then the movement will ultimately throw them out as well.

The problem I have with these messengers are, they never backed the core values of the movement. They ridiculed it, looked at it as racist and not grassroots, denying it is real and effective. However, now that there is an obvious attempt by some to hijack it, they are quick to point it out. Why do you suppose that is?

John, I also got a chance to see the video on economic heart attack before the topic crashed. In response to "Don't blame the messenger".

I would say yes, blame all those who are at fault. The banks, the CEO's and the greedy risk takers. Yet nowhere in that video does it blame Fannie, Freddie, or the homeowner. Certainly, if we are behind on taxes, credit card bills, mortgage payments it can't all be blamed on the banks. Lets ease the debt across the board on the home owners that can't make the payments and in a sense, punish those that sacrificed and acted responsibly.

Justice is simple. Punish ALL those that act irresponsible and reward those that are responsible and help the innocent that do not deserve punishment. John, who are the innocent?
